I'll be uploading a series of sea/space/landscapes over the course of the rest of the week, a series of short studies I am doing to complement a short written piece for my Russian Science Fiction and Fantasy course. The final project for the course was left very open-ended, and I chose to create these paintings to try and get at the similarities and differences I saw in the settings of the works we read this past year. I Miss Japan

I seem to have been sketching a lot of pictures of Japan lately, mostly from photos I took during my summer study program. I've been thinking a lot about my time there, partly due to the fact that a good friend of mine is currently studying abroad in Japan and keeps IMing me about the joys of Hanami... That's something I've really got to go do some time (that's the spring time Flower Viewing season, for those who aren't familiar with the term). I'm rather jealous! :) I'm not planning on going back any time soon, but I do miss it--it's such a different environment from the states, and the energy of Tokyo is really exciting. Took me nearly 22 years to admit it, but I am finally making art the focus of what I do. I'm applying to companies for computer animation and/or game art... I've spent too long trying to convince myself that art ISN'T a possibility, but I don't want to be an academic and I'm not a businessman, I'm an artist, so dammit, now I'm just going to assume that it will work out and keep trying until somebody hires me!
